A cold January night at Stonehenge to shoot Orion over the stones. For astro photography I use a modified camera which picks up the red light from the nebulas which abound in this area of space. In the winter nights we look out away from the centre of our galaxy and the stars of Orion sit in the outer reaches of the Orion Cygnus spiral arm and it is a beautiful area of sky. It's very tempting to focus just on Orion but I wanted to show the whole area of the sky so went for a panoramic view.
Here we have a superb parade from Sirius on the left, the rosette nebula, orion surrounded by Barnard's Loop, and moving right to Aldebaran, Mars, the Pleiades cluster and the California Nebula.
